The project
The Metalla Project aims at collecting and better understanding the data of texts and words in ancient languages dealing with metal at all its stages from ore to produced object. The team implied gathers archaeologists, historians and archaeometers of metals and economy in Antiquity, as well as specialists of ancient languages. The books we are preparing will include Latin/French, Greek/French, Gaulish/French lexicons and selected texts about mining and metallurgy in Antiquity that will be translated and commented.
The project Metalla is funded by the CNRS laboratory TRACES - UMR 5608 of the University of Toulouse Jean-Jaures and, since 2019, by the Regional Archeology Service of the DRAC Occitanie through funds managed by the association archeologies..
